The Pecos League landed in Monterey

The Pecos League landed in Monterey on Saturday Night as the Monterey Amberjacks defeated the Hollywood Stars in front of a sold out Sollectio Park. More than 995 fans watched local legend Pete Ruiz strike out 11 hitters in four innings. The Amberjacks rallied to score 5 runs in the 7th and Steve Carr held off the Stars to preserve the Wind.

Matt Sizemore was the team"s announcer. The Sollectio Family threw out a pinpoint strike for the opening pitch. Caleb Davidson from the Hollywood Stars hit the games first and only home run.

Baseball has arrived in California City as the California City Whiptails played their first home game defeating the Monterey Amberjacks 11-10 on Sunday Night. The game was played in front of a capacity crowd and played despite not all fences being completed. Both teams used the game as their final Spring Training Game.

The Yardbirds won the game 9-8 in front of a large gathering for a Spring Training Game in Adelanto Stadium. Each team threw 8 pitchers and saw their players in a lineup for the first time. "People were really happy to have a baseball team back here. The Yardbirds and Amberjacks learned something about the ballclubs today. They had Crazy Chris going in the stands and it was great." says Justin Thompson field manager of Monterey Amberjacks.

The Amberjacks will play in the Western Division in the 2017 season with the High Desert Yardbirds, Bakersfield Train Robbers and California City Whiptails. The Monterey Amberjacks will play in historic Sollecito Park in the Middle of Monterey which has one of the best views of any baseball park.

Pecos League Commissioner and Owner Andrew Dunn "We are excited to play the 2017 season in Monterey, It gives the league the final puzzle piece to have four teams in an all California Western Division." Monterey is a beautiful Coastal City that is 118 Miles South of San Francisco and 320 miles North of Los Angeles. The Monterey City voted 4-0 to sign a contract to allow the Pecos League to play at Sollecito Park.

The Pecos League is proud to announce the Monterey Amberjacks for the 2017 season. The Monterey Amberjacks have released their 2017 schedule. It is viewable at online here.

The Amberjacks will play in historic Sollecito Park in Monterey. The Amberjacks will play in the Western Division of the Pecos League along with the California City Whiptails, Bakersfield Train Robbers and High Desert Yardbirds.

Sollecito Park is only available on Saturdays and Sundays in June and July for the inaugural season of the Amberjacks. The Amberjacks will play neutral site home games on Mondays in Hollister, California.

The Amberjacks will play 19 home games between Monterey and Hollister. The Amberjacks will travel to play Tucson a six game series in Arizona.

The Amberjacks will play four different teams in 2017.

The Amberjacks will open the 2017 season on May 25 in Bakersfield against the Train Robbers.

1. Where would the team play?
Sollecito Park. The team would coordinate home dates with other events that are currently being scheduled there. Games would be Saturdays and Sundays at night.

2. What league would the team play in?
The Pecos League. The team would play in the Western Division with Bakersfield and High Desert and Tucson. There would be 12 teams in the Pecos League including Monterey. Monterey would also host Roswell and possibly White Sands.

3. What would the team be called?
Monterey Amberjacks. People might call them the JACKS

4. Who is the team affiliated with?
The Pecos League is independent and is not affiliated with major league baseball. The Pecos League often promotes players to other affiliated baseball teams.

5. Will there be beer at games?
Yes

6. Where do the players come from where do they live?
The players are typically non-drafted College Seniors aged 25 and younger and come from all over California and all over the US.

7. Who will run the team on day-to-day basis
The team will hire local people for game day positions.

8. Who will manage the team?
Coaching Staff will be assembled in early 2017.

9. When does the season run?
the season runs from May 26-July 26. Spring Training is one week from May 19-May 25th

10. Why Monterey?
In the Fall of 2016 season the Pecos League announced it would expand to Bakersfield and High Desert for the 2017 season. The High A California League withdrew from both of these cities at the end of the 2016 season. Moving into these stadiums was a great opportunity for the Pecos League. Logistics would pose an immediate problem with the league"s eight teams. Salinas and Monterey have been trying to get Pro Baseball Back in the Region for years and this is the opportunity.
