June 21 2019 The Monterey Amberjacks defeated the California City Whiptails 4-2, overcoming an early two-run deficit at Sollectio Park. California City scored twice in the first inning, but Monterey answered with one run in the second and took the lead with a three-run fifth inning. The Amberjacks finished with 10 hits while the Whiptails collected five.
Steven Longo led Monterey at the plate with three hits in four at-bats. Morgan Blatnik, Brooks Benson, James Prockish, Thomas Prospero, Griffin Barnes and Joseph Broderick each added a hit, while Benson, Prockish and Broderick were credited with RBIs. California City’s Cody Castro had two hits and scored once, and Ben Tingen also scored a run.
Broderick earned the victory with a complete-game performance, allowing five hits and two runs, one earned, while walking seven and striking out 12 over nine innings. Julian Tejeda took the loss for California City despite completing eight innings; he surrendered 10 hits and four runs, only one earned, with two walks and seven strikeouts.
Monterey’s three-run fifth provided the decisive margin, and the Amberjacks held California City scoreless after its two-run first inning. California City committed two errors, while Monterey was charged with one.
