Whiptails Pull Away for 10-6 Win Over Amberjacks

June 10 2018 The California City Whiptails defeated the Monterey Amberjacks 10-6 after scoring in the first fifth and eighth innings. California City opened with four runs in the first, added three in the fifth and put the game out of reach with three more in the eighth. Monterey scored once in the first before producing four runs in the sixth and one in the seventh, but could not complete the comeback.

Scott Stetson led California City with two hits, two runs, two RBI and two walks. Hunter Villanueva drove in three runs and hit a home run, while Wardy Polanco also homered and finished with three RBI. Jacob Wohler added a hit and scored a run, and Johnny Abbaduscky reached base three times with one hit and three walks. The Whiptails finished with eight hits and nine walks.

Tomas Gutierrez earned the win for California City after allowing five runs on seven hits over 5.2 innings, with five walks and one strikeout. Brandon Anderson worked 1.1 innings and Albert Neff threw two scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Monterey’s W. Salas went 3-for-5, while Matt Kuhl had two hits. Alejandro Rodriguez took the loss after surrendering seven runs over five innings, despite recording 11 strikeouts.
