Monterey Amberjacks Defeat Santa Cruz Seaweed 8-4

July 3 2021 The Monterey Amberjacks defeated the Santa Cruz Seaweed 8-4 at Harvey West Park. Monterey collected nine hits and scored in five innings, while Santa Cruz also finished with nine hits but left the tying run out of reach after a late rally.

Monterey took a 2-1 lead in the second inning and added two runs in the third before scoring once in the fourth to go ahead 5-1. The Amberjacks added two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh. Santa Cruz scored three times in the bottom of the seventh, but Monterey held on for the victory.

Scotty Olivo went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs for Monterey. Ethan Lopez drove in two runs, Antonio Carta had a hit and two RBI, and Adrian Martinez went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Jacob Lagos also contributed a hit, a run and an RBI, while Joey Pejuan scored twice.

Jacob Lagos earned the win after allowing eight hits and four earned runs in 6.1 innings, with two walks and three strikeouts. Andrew Preimesberger recorded the final two outs without allowing a run. Jacob Trujillo took the loss for Santa Cruz after surrendering five earned runs in 3.1 innings. Brennan Wilson had two hits and an RBI for the Seaweed, while Grant Goff and Michael Green also drove in runs.
